18th Century Farmhouse Table
A superb late 18th Century Farmhouse table, most likely Welsh, with a large drawer to one end. The table has a three plank Sycamore top with cleated ends. The top is reversible - often found on tables like this so as the surface could be turned over and used for different tasks. The table stands on oak legs joined by a central stetcher. The planks on the top of the table are incredibly thick and have split apart over the years revealing the metal dowelling and rough sawn bark.
The table has so much character and the patination and depth is just superb. There are many old historic woodworm holes and signs of age and use but it is a solid and sturdy piece. There have been repairs and restorations over the years including that the bottom of the legs have been replaced.
Due to the large drawer going about 2/3 of the way down the table this makes it tight to squeeze your knees under to sit at the table. There are two good seating positions at the other end to the drawer but of course it also makes a superb prep table or hall table.
