Ship's 'Starboard' Navigation Lamp
Early 20th Century
Good example of a large original ship's Starboard lamp manufactured in the early 20th Century. It is marked 'STARBOARD' and is fitted with blue glass. It has been painted black and the metal parts highlighted in a brass / gold coloured wash. It is a corner shape, being rounded at the front coming from a 90 degree angle at the back. It has a handle to enable hanging and also a bracket on the side panel. It would have originally been fitted with an oil burner but the inside is bare and could be used decoratively or converted to electricity.
Height : 19" (48cm)
Width : 14" (36cm)
Depth : 12" (30cm)
It is a nice large size and in good original condition. The lamp has been lightly cleaned is ready for display. It has a nice aged patina and is not without some knocks and scratches. The glass is original but has picked up a couple of chips which have been coloured over to keep the glass looking blue. The hinge on the lid of the lamp has perished but it still sits firmly on the top and doesn't detract from the overall look (see photo). Internally there is a little bit of rust but nothing major.
